So, you can design everything for your business yourself? That’s great, but is it unique and will it make your business stand out from others?
In the past I’ve had potential clients contact me about designing logos or business cards for their business, after discussing what they need and how I will produce the best design for them they go away and think about it. A week or so later I contact them and ask if they’ve had anymore thoughts on my proposal and I get told, ‘oh, it’s ok I’ve done it myself on PowerPoint’ or they’ve used Vista Print. I don’t take it to heart they just aren’t the right client for me but I wish they knew the benefits of using a professional designer rather than choosing DIY design!
Let me tell you why I think that DIY design isn’t the best way forward for your business.
There are some great online design apps but do they really give you complete freedom and individuality. Using places like Vista you use stock designs so you look the same as another business, you don’t own the copyright of the designs you’ve created. There is also very little or no personality in these designs. Using a professional designer gives you the opportunity to have a completely unique design, with your personality in it. A designer will spend time getting to know you and your target market meaning a successful piece of design at the end of the process. After everything is finalised and paid up then you, the client, owns the copyright to the design.
If you want to use online design apps that’s cool, but all I want to say is that if you want to stand out from other businesses in your market maybe do some research first. Yes you will find them cheaper, but cheaper isn’t always better. Paying a little bit more for a unique piece of design and a good business relationship might be a better shout, especially if you want to make your brand have some personality and longevity.
