LB Designs – Branding

So, after years of procrastination and general things getting in the way (or maybe they were obstacles I was putting there), I have finally done it and started doing the work I love from my desk at home for the clients I find!

I read blog after blog for advice and plans on where to start, asked old university lecturers and friends, got so much information I felt I was drowning. So, I just took the information I needed and did what my heart was telling me. I’ve got a long road ahead of me to make this the success I want it to be, but with the determination I have it will happen.

And here it is, LB Designs! After making the leap and deciding that this was the route I wanted to take my design and marketing career the hardest part was to actually decide on the brand with the right look and feel for me. I love designing, designing for yourself is really fun but way more stressful. I wanted my brand to be feminine but not ‘flowery’ that I would potentially alienate male clients (that wouldn’t help in the main sector I am looking to focus on – more about that in another blog).

With a passion for the eras of the 1920s – 1960s I wanted to reflect something of this too. Art Deco was probably one of the earliest memories I have of feeling something for a piece of art/design, including this in my brand just seemed to fit. Then the colour palette just seemed to drop into place. Using a brand style sheet at the end of the process you can really see how the brand comes together.

I love the clean lines that an Art Deco style gives to design. This logo was a winner as soon as I designed it, not only does it show ‘LB’ but it also looks like the number 13 which was great from my point of view. You may be thinking where is she going with this, but 13 has been a favourite number of mine for a long time so having that as part of my logo just worked.

Loving fonts I spent many an hour looking and trying different fonts to make them work with the style I was after. Dunbar was actually inspired by the credits on His Dark Materials on BBC over Christmas.

So, that’s my brand… I hope you like it as much as I do and keep checking out my blog for more updates of what I’m up to “At My Desk” or for some of “My Top Tips”. Drop me a comment below or ping me an email I’d love to know what you think. 🐝
